Me canoeing in Spruce Woods

Mark Forkheim

Here's a few facts about me:
  • I was born in Winnipeg and have lived here all my life.
  • I have a great interest in the history of Winnipeg.
  • I have a Bachelor of Science from the University of Manitoba.
  • I have a Diploma in Computer Engineering Technology from RRCC.
  • I currently work at Brains II, fixing and deploying computers.
  • My hobbies include photography, fixing things and philosophizing.
  • I am also establishing a photographic record of Winnipeg through the ages.

I try not to play favorites, but:
  • Favorite Movie Actor - Arnold Schwarzenegger
  • Favorite Movie - Either one of the Terminators
  • Favorite Author - Tom Brown Jr.
  • Favorite Magazine - Scientific American
  • Favorite Sport - Auto Racing (just ask the police)

I am publishing this site not only to help me learn how to design and program on the web, but also to make some of my ideas and information available to everyone.

I am driven by a huge curiosity. This has given me an intense need to keep learning. I have studied almost every field out there, but my favorite topics are from science and technology. My favorite subjects would have to be robotics and artificial intelligence, but I also like biology, archeology, neurology and philosophy. I read science not science fiction. I have an excellent collection of Scientific American magazines and a huge collection of non-fiction and texts. I tend to have many projects going at the same time. There is just so much fascinating stuff out there I could never specialize.

I don't smoke or do drugs. I don't get drunk very often either. I'm no health freak, but I try to do things in moderation. I eat relatively healthily, but enjoy junk/fast food every one in a while. I do enjoy the outdoors, even though I am a fair weather outdoorsman. I enjoy canoeing, swimming, cycling, hiking and snowshoeing. I especially like to take long walks. I use them as a form of meditation to calm down or think things through.

I live for the sun. If it's sunny and warm, you can find me outside. If it's sunny, I'm up at sunrise.
